The answer to this question is: No, but with Batterytester one is able to minimize the risk.
Not only the e-bike battery capacity is an important factor related to the quality of the battery. The internal resistance is as well important. The internal resistance will increase during the life cycle and use of the battery and because of the natural degredation of the battery. The internal condition causes losses and heat development during charging and discharging of the battery. In practice, a high internal resistance results into a fall-out of the system when the battery is almost empty and when high discharge forces take place (e.g. up the mountain) and also because the battery can be thermally switched off. In principle the BMS takes care that the battery pack will be switched off in case of high temperatures. When this does not function a dangerous situation might arise in which the battery catching fire cannot be excluded. That is why it is recommended to do an annual battery test with Batterytester of both the capacity and internal resistance! With our Batterytester the internal resistance is measured directly during the test. This is done by repeatedly changing the load during the test. This is not a setting but automatically taking care of with a Batterytester test. The internal resistance is measured throughout the entire test. The battery capacity loss is very dependent on the use, temperatures, discharge current etc. In practice we see a degeneration of quality batteries of approx. 3-10% and wtith low budget batteries of approx. 10-20% per year.
